Videos to watch

I get so engrossed in teaching human connection principles I tend to see illustrations even in the most unlikely places. Take the videos below, for instance. Each one drives home an important truth about human connection in general (as well as prospecting in particular). Kick back and enjoy.

Aren’t you listening?

Some people just flat out enjoy being miserable. You can offer to help, you can offer to lead them to a solution–business or otherwise–but no matter how much you try, they just don’t get it. This can be particularly frustrating when the person is someone close you. The following video nails this concept perfectly. I dare you not to laugh.

Be gracious

It’s true—you really do have something the prospect wants, but that’s no reason to be arrogant, condescending, or braggadocios. On the contrary, make a point to be gracious and unassuming because in prospecting, just as in life, what goes around comes around; a lesson one guy learns the hard way…

When it all comes together

Effective prospecting isn’t really all that complicated, but it does require you to know a few key concepts. Once you know them and figure out how they work together, prospecting just works—sometimes in the most amazing ways; just like in this video…

Watch your tone

Nonverbal signals play an important role in effective communication. Make sure your tone of voice and body language give off friendly signals. Otherwise, the other person might not appreciate your efforts. The man in this video doesn’t come across friendly at all. Check out the way his prospect responds . . .

Be relatable when you talk

Always communicate from the other person’s perspective. If you use industry jargon or other confusing terms, your audience won’t be able to relate. This alone is enough to kill your message. This video is a genuine commercial for an Australian telecom provider. It provides a hilarious example of “Multi-crap” aka how not to talk to your audience . . .

A lot like this

Once you know a few key principles, and once you get some experience using them, you can lead your conversations (and prospects) pretty much anywhere . . . a lot like this . . .

Me, when I first started prospecting

This is a fine example of how not to prospect. I used to be guilty of this. Thank goodness, I learned better.

Busting the Mehrabian Myth

Do you still believe the Mehrabian Myth? Or, even worse, have you passed it on to others? I used to teach it. Never again. This video explains why:
